The experience

Big fights. Small rods.

Light tackle means light spinning gear and live bait — sensitive enough to feel every head-shake, strong enough to turn a hundred-pound tarpon. We run the mangrove edges and channels of the San José and Torrecillas lagoons, where the highest concentration of tarpon on the island holds year-round.

Expect around 6–7 strikes in a typical charter — with 2–3 tarpon boated being a good day. Between bites: manatees, herons, spoonbills, and dead-calm water with San Juan's skyline on the horizon. Your captain rigs, baits, coaches and unhooks; you just fight the fish.

[ 01 ] Meet

Dock E-112, Cangrejos Yacht Club. 5–10 minutes from most San Juan hotels, safe parking on site.

[ 02 ] Run

A short run into the mangrove lagoon aboard the Sundance VX20 — flat water the whole way.

Q.01Is this trip good for beginners and kids? +

Yes — light tackle is the most forgiving way to fish the lagoon. Your guide handles rigging and coaching, and the calm, protected water means no seasickness for anyone aboard.

Q.02How many anglers can come? +

Up to 4 anglers per charter on the Sundance VX20 — it's designed for tarpon fishing with a flat, non-skid deck that makes moving around during a fight easy.

Q.03What should I bring? +

Just sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat and a camera. Gear, bait, drinks, snacks and the fishing license are covered.

Q.04When is the best time to go? +

Tarpon feed hardest at dawn and dusk, so early morning and late afternoon departures fish best — but the lagoon holds fish year-round, every month of the year.
